Mariano Navone holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge over Denis Shapovalov from their 2025 Wimbledon first-round clash on grass, but the shift to Rome's clay courts favors the Argentine's baseline grinding style and stronger surface record (34-26 ATP clay career). Navone arrives in form after recent clay wins over Christopher O'Connell, Elmer Moller, Alex Molcan, and qualifier Federico Cina, boosting trader consensus on his upset potential. Shapovalov, ranked around No. 37 with a 2-3 clay mark in 2026 including a Munich quarterfinal run, relies on his lefty power and serve but has struggled for consistency post-knee recovery. No injury concerns reported; winner faces seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime next.
