Vilius Gaubas, ranked No. 124 with a career-high of 101, holds a slight ranking edge over 19-year-old Rei Sakamoto (No. 159) in this Madrid Open qualifying final on high-altitude red clay, their first head-to-head encounter. Both advanced convincingly in Q1: Gaubas dispatched Arthur Gea 6-2, 6-4 after a recent Barcelona Q1 loss, while Sakamoto rallied from a tiebreak to beat Zachary Svajda 7-6(9), 6-1. Gaubas boasts stronger 2026 clay results and experience, but Sakamoto's higher Elo rating (1628 vs. 1597) and youth signal upset potential amid even trader consensus on the fast clay surface. No injury concerns reported ahead of Court 8 action.
