Defending Mutua Madrid Open champion Casper Ruud faces qualifier Alexander Blockx in the ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinals on clay, where trader consensus reflects Ruud's superior clay pedigree—highlighted by his dominant 6-0, 6-1 rout of Jaume Munar and gritty three-set escape from two match points against Stefanos Tsitsipas—against the 21-year-old Belgian's breakthrough run, including straight-sets upsets over No. 16 Francisco Cerundolo and two prior Top 20 foes for his first Masters QF. Ruud returns healthy post-Monte Carlo calf retirement, while no head-to-head exists; Madrid's altitude aids Blockx's aggressive forehand but favors Ruud's topspin baseline grinding amid neutral conditions.
