Dusan Lajovic, ranked No. 138 with extensive clay court experience including past deep Madrid runs, advanced to the Mutua Madrid Open qualifying final by defeating Matteo Arnaldi 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 yesterday, signaling a rebound from recent clay losses in Alicante and Marrakech. Chris Rodesch, No. 171 and riding momentum from a career-high No. 137 in March, upset Rinky Hijikata 7-6(2), 6-2 in the prior qualifying round after strong challenger showings in Oeiras. No head-to-head history exists on the high-altitude red clay at Court 4, where Lajovic's veteran baseline game holds an edge over Rodesch's rising power, but the young Luxembourger's recent form keeps trader consensus closely contested ahead of this best-of-three-sets decider for a main draw spot.
