Arthur Rinderknech holds a commanding 3-0 head-to-head edge over Alex Michelsen, including a straight-sets win in Shanghai last October where the American failed to claim a set, driving trader consensus toward the No. 27-ranked Frenchman in this BMW Open clay-court opener. Rinderknech sharpened his form with a recent Monte-Carlo upset of Karen Khachanov (7-5, 6-2), leveraging his baseline grinding suited to clay, while No. 35 Michelsen seeks his first 2026 clay victory after a Houston round-of-16 exit to Alexei Popyrin. Surface familiarity and historical dominance position Rinderknech favorably, though Michelsen's aggressive returns pose upset potential in Munich's outdoor conditions.
