In the Mutua Madrid Open second round on high-altitude clay, No. 32 seed Brandon Nakashima faces qualifier Alexander Blockx, with trader consensus reflecting Nakashima's higher ranking and 2-0 head-to-head edge on hard courts from 2023 and Cincinnati 2025. Blockx arrives with momentum from a gritty 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 upset over clay veteran Cristian Garin in the first round two days ago, extending his strong European clay swing that includes a Munich debut win over Yannick Hanfmann. Nakashima, fresher via bye, holds a middling 2026 clay record (e.g., Houston R32 win over Martin Damm, Barcelona R16 loss to Arthur Fils), underscoring his baseline steadiness against Blockx's powerful forehand and youth (21) on a surface suiting big hitters amid favorable weather.
