Jaume Munar holds a clear edge entering his Madrid Open first-round clash with Alexander Shevchenko on outdoor clay, leading their head-to-head 2-0 including a prior clay win, while ranking higher at No. 38 versus No. 82 and thriving as a Spanish baseline grinder suited to the surface. Traders reflect this consensus in pricing, tempered by Munar's rust from a straight-sets Barcelona qualifier loss last week—his first match back after a two-month right arm injury. Shevchenko carries upset potential from stunning No. 8 Ben Shelton in Miami and Monte Carlo qualifying wins over Roberto Bautista Agut, though his recent Munich clay exit highlights vulnerability against top-50 foes in Masters 1000 openers.
