In the ATP Challenger Tunis first-round clash on clay, higher-ranked Alex Barrena (No. 189) faces qualifier Inaki Montes-De La Torre (No. 329) in their debut head-to-head matchup. Barrena, a 23-year-old Argentine right-hander, holds a 10-11 clay record in 2026 with quarterfinal showings in Asuncion and Sao Paulo 2 but enters off three straight Challenger losses, including a 6-4, 6-2 defeat to August Holmgren in Francavilla last week. Montes, also 23 from Spain, boasts a stronger 17-5 clay mark this year and a recent Futures title over Oriol Roca Batalla, though he retired injured at 7-5, 1-0 versus Henry Barton in Tuesday's qualifying round after cruising past Federico Arnaboldi. With both showing retirement histories, fitness and endurance on the outdoor Tunis courts amid potential May heat could prove decisive for this evenly poised encounter.
