Jacob Fearnley (#123) holds a slight ranking edge over Shintaro Mochizuki (#130) in this Internazionali BNL d'Italia qualifying first-round clash on outdoor clay in Rome, where both enter with subpar 2026 form—Mochizuki at 0-6 YTD on the ATP Tour and Fearnley at 2-4, their recent losses confined to hard courts. Absent any head-to-head history, trader consensus reflects a competitive bout, with Fearnley's marginally stronger career clay record (including recent Challenger success) potentially offsetting Mochizuki's limited dirt experience (0-4 in recent clay matches). No reported injuries or withdrawals disrupt the best-of-three-sets matchup, under mild sunny conditions with temperatures in the low 70s°F; the winner advances to face another qualifier for main-draw entry.
