In the Internazionali BNL d'Italia quarterfinals on clay, world No. 9 Daniil Medvedev faces surging lucky loser Martin Landaluce, reflecting trader consensus on Medvedev's pedigree despite the Spaniard's breakout run. Landaluce, career-high No. 94, advanced as the sixth lucky loser to reach Rome's last 16 before straight-sets dispatch of Hamad Medjedovic yesterday, building on upsets over Marcos Giron and Luciano Darderi. Medvedev, 2023 Rome champion with a modest 2026 clay start, rallied past Pablo Llamas Ruiz in round three then eased Thiago Agustin Tirante in 22 hours ago for his QF spot. No head-to-head exists; Medvedev's baseline grinding suits clay marginally better than Landaluce's aggressive youth, though fatigue from Landaluce's qualifiers looms.
