In the Mutua Madrid Open second round on high-altitude clay, No. 31 seed Denis Shapovalov (ATP No. 35) faces qualifier Nicolai Budkov Kjaer (No. 140), with trader consensus favoring the Canadian's experience and power game amid his resurgent 2026 clay form, highlighted by a Munich quarterfinal run over Fabian Marozsan. The 19-year-old Norwegian next-gen talent advanced via Reilly Opelka's retirement in qualifying, riding a 14-12 season record (4-3 clay) and showing baseline resilience. No head-to-head exists; Madrid's faster-bouncing conditions could amplify Shapovalov's lefty serve but test his consistency post-knee injury recovery, while Kjaer's youth offers upset potential in a best-of-three matchup.
