No. 20 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP No. 24) holds the edge over wild-card Pablo Carreno Busta (No. 94) in this all-Spanish Mutua Madrid Open round-of-64 clay-court matchup, buoyed by superior ranking, explosive athleticism, and suitability to the high-altitude venue's faster conditions. Carreno Busta's comeback from 2023 elbow surgery gained momentum with Thursday's first-round upset of Marton Fucsovics—his first Madrid win in 10 years via 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 rally—bolstered by a 10-2 clay record this year including a Murcia Challenger title. Davidovich Fokina enters 9-7 YTD off mixed hard-court results, with no prior head-to-head; mild partly cloudy weather poses minimal disruption. Trader consensus reflects Fokina's seeding advantages against Carreno's resurgent form and home support.
