Jenson Brooksby (No. 61) meets Emilio Nava (No. 116) in the Madrid Open first-round clash on clay, their first head-to-head encounter. Brooksby arrives off a Houston R32 loss to Mackenzie McDonald three weeks ago—his only 2026 clay tune-up after winning the event as a qualifier in 2025—amid mixed hardcourt results like an Auckland R32 win and recent defeats to Tommy Paul in Dallas and Alexander Bublik at Australian Open. Nava carries superior recent clay momentum from a Santiago quarterfinal upset over Matteo Berrettini in February, though his 13-13 overall 2026 record mirrors Brooksby's inconsistency. The slower Madrid surface tests baseline defense and endurance, with no reported injuries shaping trader consensus on this evenly matched all-American matchup.
