Second-seeded Alexander Zverev holds strong trader consensus favoritism heading into his Mutua Madrid Open semi-final against unseeded qualifier Alexander Blockx, fueled by Zverev's dominant 6-1, 6-4 quarter-final win over Flavio Cobolli and his perfect 3-0 record in Madrid semi-finals as a two-time former champion on clay. The 21-year-old Belgian Blockx, ranked No. 69, earned his spot with a stunning upset over defending champion Casper Ruud in three sets on Thursday, capping breakthrough victories over Felix Auger-Aliassime and others in his deepest Masters 1000 run. No prior head-to-head exists; Zverev's experience, serve dominance, and clay prowess contrast Blockx's aggressive baseline game, though Zverev's vague physical concerns from earlier rounds linger as a minor uncertainty ahead of Saturday's clash at Manolo Santana Stadium.
