Second seed Alexander Zverev holds a commanding edge in the Mutua Madrid Open semi-final against 21-year-old qualifier Alexander Blockx, buoyed by his two prior titles and perfect 3-0 record in Madrid semis, including a straight-sets quarter-final dismissal of No. 10 Flavio Cobolli on Thursday. Blockx, surging to a career-high No. 69 ranking, earned his maiden ATP Masters 1000 semi-final with a stunning upset over defending champion Casper Ruud in the quarters, capping a breakthrough run from a late main-draw entry after victories over Cristian Garin, Brandon Nakashima, and Felix Auger-Aliassime earlier. On high-altitude clay favoring big servers, Zverev's stylistic matchup—superior experience, power, and clay prowess—drives trader consensus, though Blockx's fearless baseline aggression and recent momentum introduce upset potential in their first head-to-head.
