Second-seeded Alexander Zverev, a former Mutua Madrid Open champion with a perfect 3-0 record in event semi-finals, cruised past Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 6-4 in Thursday's quarter-finals, showcasing punishing forehands and clay-court dominance en route to his fifth straight ATP Masters 1000 semi-final. He meets surging 21-year-old Belgian Alexander Blockx, ranked around No. 70, who upset defending champion Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 for his maiden Masters semi-final after earlier knocking out third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime—remarkable given Blockx entered without prior ATP-level clay wins. No head-to-head history exists; Zverev's experience at high-altitude Madrid clay tempers Blockx's breakout momentum from recent top-20 scalps.
