The Makerfield by-election, triggered by the resignation of Labour MP Josh Simons to enable Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s candidacy, features a contest between Burnham and Reform UK’s Robert Kenyon, who finished second in the 2024 general election. Recent constituency polling shows Burnham leading but with Reform consolidating support amid local election gains for the party, while other candidates trail far behind. These factors underpin trader consensus that Kenyon will place second behind Labour, with limited scope for late shifts given the short campaign timeline ahead of the 18 June vote.
