Andrey Rublev enters the first-round matchup at Roland Garros as the clear favorite against qualifier Ignacio Buse on the clay surface, where the Russian’s experience in major tournaments and consistent baseline game provide a significant edge. Buse, a fast-rising Peruvian ranked near his career high, arrives with strong recent clay-court momentum, including a title run and multiple victories that highlight his aggressive return game and improved ranking trajectory. Rublev’s 2026 clay season has shown mixed results with limited deep runs, yet his head-to-head history and Grand Slam pedigree remain key factors. The outdoor clay conditions and Buse’s lack of prior major experience further shape the competitive dynamic, with any late roster or fitness updates potentially influencing the outcome.
