Katie Volynets (No. 101) and Tamara Korpatsch (No. 99) clash in the Madrid Open qualifying final on outdoor clay, both advancing via Q1 wins yesterday: Volynets rallied past Oceane Dodin 6-0, 4-6, 6-1, while Korpatsch upset Spanish clay specialist Sara Sorribes Tormo. Volynets leads their head-to-head 1-0 from a hard-court meeting, with no prior clay clashes. Volynets follows a first-round Rouen clay loss to Caty McNally, building momentum here, whereas Korpatsch reached Linz quarterfinals on indoor hard before a straight-sets Stuttgart clay defeat to Diana Shnaider. High-altitude conditions amplify bounce for big hitters; no injuries or withdrawals noted.
