Top-seeded Veronika Erjavec, the defending Huzhou Open champion and WTA No. 96, enters the WTA 125 clay-court quarterfinals with commanding form after straight-set victories over wildcard Meiling Wang (6-0, 6-3) and Sofya Lansere (6-1, 6-3) this week. Facing her for the first time, unranked qualifier Wushuang Zheng (world No. 426) has impressed locals by upsetting sixth seed Yexin Ma (6-3, 6-4) and Sijia Wei in the opening rounds, leveraging home-court energy on the red clay. Erjavec's higher ranking, 11-9 YTD record, and clay proficiency—evident in efficient breakpoint defense—drive trader consensus toward her edge, though Zheng's recent momentum and familiarity with conditions keep upset potential alive ahead of today's matchup.
