The current World Cup single-tournament scoring record stands at 13 goals, set in 1958, and modern editions have seen leading marks of six to eight goals even from prolific forwards. With the 2026 field expanded to 48 teams and additional matches, traders see little realistic path for any individual to approach that benchmark given defensive setups, squad rotation, and the physical demands of a congested schedule. Recent form from top candidates like Mbappé and Haaland shows consistent but not record-breaking output in club and international play. While an unprecedented hot streak across seven or eight games remains theoretically possible, the implied probability near 95 percent reflects broad consensus that barriers to such volume are too substantial to overcome.
