Trader consensus assigns a 93% implied probability to Lionel Messi playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, driven by his consistent starts for Inter Miami and recent Argentina call-ups through April 2026, showcasing sustained fitness at age 38. Coach Lionel Scaloni's deference to Messi's decision, paired with Inter Miami staff's refusal to rest him pre-tournament, reinforces frontrunner status amid Argentina's dominant qualification and title-defense narrative. As a global cultural icon, Messi's presence promises massive draw in the expanded North American event starting June 11. Realistic challenges include a late MLS injury flare-up or personal opt-out to pass the torch, given historical patterns of veteran retirements post-peak achievements.
