Ben Shelton enters the Halle Open first-round matchup as the third seed with strong recent grass-court momentum, including a deep run at Stuttgart, while Nick Kyrgios returns via wildcard after a first singles victory in 15 months at that event. Kyrgios, a former Halle semifinalist, brings explosive serving and experience on the surface but carries extensive injury history, including wrist reconstruction and multiple knee surgeries that have restricted him to minimal tour-level action since 2022. The pair has no prior head-to-head record. Shelton’s superior fitness, ranking, and recent results position him as the clear market favorite, though Kyrgios’s power game creates upset potential in a best-of-three grass encounter where early breaks and tiebreaks often decide outcomes.
