World No. 3 Alexander Zverev meets No. 13 seed Flavio Cobolli in the Mutua Madrid Open quarterfinals on outdoor clay, a quick rematch after Cobolli's 6-3, 6-3 semifinal upset over Zverev at Munich two weeks ago—despite Zverev's overall 2-1 head-to-head lead including a 2025 Roland Garros win. Zverev broke a Madrid quarterfinal drought with gritty three-set victories over Terence Atmane and Jakub Mensik, but voiced vague post-Atmane injury concerns that clouded his physical condition amid high-altitude demands. Cobolli advanced via a tense 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 defeat of Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16, capping a clay surge with a Munich final run. Zverev's serve and experience contrast Cobolli's streaky baseline firepower.
