Second seed Alexander Zverev meets tenth seed Flavio Cobolli in the Mutua Madrid Open quarterfinals on clay at high-altitude Manolo Santana Stadium, a quick rematch after Cobolli's stunning 6-3, 6-3 Munich final upset over Zverev on April 18. Zverev grinded past Jakub Mensik 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 in the round of 16 two days ago—his third straight-set dropped or close call this week—while hinting at an unspecified injury post-match, raising doubts despite his 2018 Madrid title and strong clay pedigree. Cobolli carries momentum from upsetting seventh seed Daniil Medvedev in straight sets during the same round, building on his 1-2 head-to-head deficit with recent surface success and rising form.
