In the Cagliari ATP Challenger quarterfinals on outdoor clay, former top-10 players Matteo Berrettini and Hubert Hurkacz clash after contrasting paths: Berrettini survived a 2-hour-50-minute thriller over Patrick Kypson (6-4, 6-7(5), 7-6(5)) in the first round—serving for the match before prevailing in a third-set tiebreak—then ousted top seed and 2024 champion Mariano Navone 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday, signaling a rediscovered competitive focus in his first Challenger since March 2024. Hurkacz, the No. 6 seed, cruised in straight sets past Zachary Svajda (6-2, 7-6) and Emilio Nava (6-4, 6-1), conceding just one set. Berrettini leads their 3-1 head-to-head (no prior clay meetings), leveraging heavy groundstrokes and Italian home support, while Hurkacz's big serve thrives in baseline exchanges amid mild Sardinian conditions.
