Trader consensus in the Madrid Open first-round clash prices a razor-close matchup between No. 44 Zizou Bergs and No. 51 Marin Cilic, driven by Bergs' superior 2026 clay record at 3-2—including a solid Monte Carlo run—and his 1-0 head-to-head edge from prior meetings. Cilic, the 37-year-old former US Open champion, counters with his booming serve that exploits Madrid's high-altitude clay for extra bounce and speed, despite shakier recent clay results like a Monte Carlo loss to Auger-Aliassime. No injuries or withdrawals reported in the past 48 hours; Bergs' baseline aggression faces Cilic's power in this best-of-three-sets encounter on faster-than-average clay.
