No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev, a two-time Mutua Madrid Open champion with a strong clay-court pedigree, meets surging Frenchman Terence Atmane in the third-round clash on the high-altitude clay at Manolo Santana Stadium. Atmane, ranked around No. 47, has fueled trader interest with a dream debut run, upsetting Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round and rallying past Ugo Humbert 7-6(3), 7-6(5) yesterday despite apparent leg issues limiting his movement. Zverev dropped the first set to Mariano Navone in his opener but recovered, showcasing baseline power suited to Madrid's conditions. Their first head-to-head highlights Zverev's experience edge against Atmane's momentum in best-of-three sets for a round-of-16 berth, with no major injury concerns reported.
